I love a good game fair, nothing beats wandering around a field in boots looking at stalls of outdoor clothing and handcrafted sculptures, plus watching fantastic displays of horse riding, sheepdog training, motorbikes and more.
There are plenty of events happening this summer and here is a list of the ones local to me that I have got my eye on. All of these are dog friendly, however it’s crucial to ensure that your dog is confident and will be comfortable at these events before taking them, as there can often be big crowds and loud noises which many dogs would be uncomfortable with. Plus if it is a hot day you need to take measures to ensure your dog is kept cool.

Stafford, Staffordshire

County Shows are always hugely impressive, full of displays, animals, stalls and more.
Bolesworth International Horse Show
Wed 14th – Sun 18th June
Tattenhall, near Chester, Cheshire
http://www.bolesworthinternational.com
Why the long face?!
A horse show may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if like me you do enjoy watching horses jump over huge hurdles then this show is for you, plus it’s an all round good day out with friends or family. There’s not a massive amount of stalls but enough to keep you browsing, plus in the past there have been newfoundland water retrieve displays, have a go agility and parrot shows.
Royal Cheshire Show
Tue 20th & Wed 21st June
near Knutsford, Cheshire
http://www.royalcheshireshow.org/
Cheshire Show
The Cheshire Show is the big county show of Cheshire and is heaving! You’ll struggle to see everything in a day and it’s not for the feint hearted as lots of people go to this event, but for good reason. There are tons of stalls, displays, food courts, animals of show and all sorts.
Dogs Unleashed
Sat 24th & Sun 25th June
Bakewell Showground, Derbyshire
http://www.dogsunleashed.co.uk/
Slightly outside of Staffordshire at Bakewell, but this is a huge dog event that’s well worth the travel.
Bark for Life
Sunday 30th July
Alrewas, Burton-on-Trent
A friend shared this event with me and I thought it looks great but most importantly is for a vital cause. As you can see on the poster the proceeds go towards helping a young child named Riley who is suffering from a rare form of cancer.
Macclesfield Sheepdog Trials
Friday 4th & Saturday 5th August
Macclesfield, Cheshire
http://www.macclesfieldsheepdogtrials.co.uk
Macclesfield Sheepdog Trials
I love sheepdog trials! It’s one of my favourite working dog disciplines to watch, although I don’t fully understand it which is one of the joys I think. The Macclesfield Sheepdog Trials is quite a small event but it has a handful of stalls, a beer tent and the chance to watch some fantastic dogs working sheep for fair small dinner. My friends and I often pack a picnic and if the weather is nice enjoy a day out in the sun watching our favourite breed doing what they do best.
Cheshire Game & Angling Fair
Sunday 6th August
Peover, Cheshire

This is one of my favourite gamefair type shows with gundog scurries, lurcher racing and various stalls and display.

Cheshire Game & Country Fair
Saturday 26th – Monday 28th August
Near Knutsford, Cheshire
http://cheshiregameandcountryfair.co.uk/
Seriously how many game fairs does Cheshire need?! However this one does look good and with the timings of my new puppy it looks like this may be the one I venture to. There are gundog scurries, lurcher racing, archery and shooting to have a go at plus more.
What events are you planning on attending this year? If there are any I have missed off this list let me know and I’m always looking for new events to check out.
