So there’s been a bit of chat on instagram about pausing watches mid-run, and I posted this on there today but thought I’d share my thoughts on here too…
1. Of course there is absolutely nothing wrong with stopping and having a break during a run.
2. There is nothing wrong with pausing while you stop if you prefer.
3. I personally rarely pause my watch. I’d rather have an accurate overall time taken as, at the end of the day, they dont pause the clock during an event/race, and if I leave my house on a 20 mile adventure I want to know how long that adventure lasted, and use it to predict how long I may be out for on future trips.
Plus when you are doing something like a challenge, e.g. Yorkshire 3 Peaks, its all about how long it took you overall, not how long it took you if you dont count the breaks.
4. I really struggle with comparison so personally I’d rather see someone’s strava or IG or whatever say a 35min 5k, with a 5 min break halfway, than a 30min 5k.
People who are honest about their breaks help me to feel much better about my times and runs.
But at the end of the day, do what the fuck you want, there’s no rules 🤷♀️
